How to Answer the Question“Tell me about yourself” in a Job Interview
This is usually the 1st question every job seeker will hear in an interview board .

Providing a good answer means that you will create a strong, positive impression on the interviewer.
In this article, I will provide you a three-step formula to give the best answer to this question-"Tell me about yourself".
So I can start now. you enter the room of interview and shake hands with the interviewer and you sit down with permission.
And then comes the question – “Tell me about yourself.”How do you start?Well, the best way to begin your answer is with a one sentence introduction.This sentence should summarize who you are.
For instance, if I were a cadidate for a English teaching position , I would say “I am an English teacher and trainer who has 6 years' practical experience in the teaching sector.”
It is important to notice that the above sentence indicates you that I am an English teacher and I am also a teacher trainer (meaning that I train other teachers),and that I have 6 years’experience in the field.So it’s a good summary of me as the applicant or candidate for the job.
Now, if you presently graduated from an University, and you are a facing interview board for your first job, you can say: “I am a fresh graduate with a BBA in Operations Management” -for example.
This is the smart starting or introduction.After this, you should say 3 to 5 sentences about your achievements and success..These sentences should express why you are the best candidate for this work or job.
This part is where you impress the interviewer.
If I were a job seeker, I would talk about my achievements as a teacher: I would say that I have specializion in teaching business English to professionals of all levels.
Here I would like to indicate the important fact that I have trained executives from big companies.
I would then say that the achievements of my training programs have made these clients repeat customers–meaning that they have come back to my company for more training.
When you make your answer, think of 3
to 6 points about your achievements or success.If you are a recent graduate, indicate your accomplishments in University(like your projects),and your other academic or non academic successes.
Now, at this stage, the interviewer must be impressed with you.They will have gained a lot of respect for your skills.
But, they might be thinking – well, you have performed all this and you seem like a real professional,but why do you want to come and work here in this company?So,your last or concluding statementor speech should be your answer for why you want to do this job.
And here, please don't say “I loathe
my boss” or “all my coworkers are plotting against me” or something else that is negative thinking about your present job.Be positive.Instead, if you are changing jobs, you should make it sound positive.
I might say “I’m very happy in my current
job, but I searching for a more challenging
Job or role.One where I can use my skills in a managerial position.That’s why I want this job or position.”
Or, if I were a recent graduate, I would say
“I am searching for a job where I can use my education and skills , where I will
be given challenges to go big and learn, and contribute to the greatest success of the company.”
Needless to say, I’m very happy in my current
job, it’s extremely fulfilling, but I’mlooking for a more challenging managerial duty where I can use my teaching ability,and that’s why I’m here today.
So memorize the formula – start with a strong and attractive introduction, then talk about 3-5 of your achievements, and finally, finish with a statement on why you want this job.
Before we close this lesson, just a couple of quick tips: When you answer this question,it’s not good to talk about your family or your hobbies or other interests.
Because all that information is not important
to the interviewer – he or she is only trying
to decide whether you are a good candidate
for the job.And if they want to know about your personal life, they can ask you later in the interview.
Second, in some interviews, instead of the
question “tell me about yourself”, your interviewer might say “walk me through your
resume” or “walk me through your background”.
This means the interviewer is asking you to
start with your first job or your education
and then go through your experience, ending
with your current role.
In that case, spend just a little bit of time
talking about each job, still focusing on your achievements, what difference you made
to the companies you worked for, and what
skills you acquired there.
Spend the most time talking about your accomplishments in your current job (or your more recent educational qualification if you’re a recent graduate).
